Brief history

Byrne, Like many Gnos began as a traveling magician who created spectacular fireworks displays for his carnival caravan. One winter, the carnival was extremely low on attendees and revenue, But Gnos and his friends discovered a precursor ruin right under the caravan’s campsite. Exploring the ruins, Byrne and his friends fought off the planar horrors that nested there and claimed the riches that were long buried. The discovery had saved the carnival and from that moment on, the group took up treasure hunting instead of entertaining. Byrne still likes to put on shows, however, and occasionally takes his vacation time to travel to dales and hamlets as a solo magician act.

Motivations

Byrne is surprisingly empathic. His powerful aura somehow makes him acutely sensitive to the moods and feelings of others. For this reason, he prefers to brighten rooms with rousing laughter, high moods and warm cheer. Because of this, he prefers the company of adventurers and optimists. Those who live life with zeal and hope for the day to come.

Born, raised and trained in Arach Cital, Chizzle has seen little of the outside world. He has inherited his strong sense of duty from his kindly but strict instructors and is a firm believer of his society’s class system.

Motivations

For Chizzle, duty comes first. He is polite and rational. He is eager and helpful. He is learned and has a good memory. He is also timid around authority figures. A bit oblivious to the motives of his romantic partners, but always attentive to requests. Chizzle is the consummate “love butler.” Always ready to help. Always erect at the snap of his lady’s finger.

Brief history

Cypress trained and travelled with an elderly, but powerful hero-teacher of the previous age, Master “Oak Leaf”. From his master, Cypress gained his wisdom, but also his streak of overprotectiveness. Cypress looked after his master’s needs, cooked, cleaned and protected. Recently, however Master Leaf has gone missing. Cypress is desperate to discover what has happened and rescue his beloved father figure.

Motivations

Master Leaf and Cypress have shared a lot of good times and bad. Cypress grew up at the feet of the master and has known him longer than any other student. But recently, Master Oak Leaf has been trying to urge Cypress to strike out on his own in the world, believing that Cypress could grow much stronger if he stepped out from the shadow. But Cypress feels comfort and familiarity with his master and continues to serve. Without Master Leaf around, Cypress is obsessed with finding out what happened. But, he is growing rapidly into his own person in spite of himself. Cypress is growing into a leader. A defender of the weak. A true hero of epic proportions. If only he’d give himself some credit instead of owing it ALL to Master Leaf’s teachings.

Brief history

Dashe began his explorer career by accident. His first vocational choice was Sage. But while traveling to the Dydrad libraries in the southern region, his caravan was waylaid by vicious planar horrors who leaked in from beyond the veil. During the assault, Dashe hid in a pile of rubble which turned out to be the entrance to a lost precursor temple. Inside the temple, Dashe found a fragment of a precursor artifact called a “techna scroll”. The runes on the scroll imprinted itself into Dashe’s aura, the skin of his soul, and transformed his hands into powerful weapons. Weapons he used to beat back the monsters attacking his caravan and rescue his fellow sages. Dashe went back to his studies for a time, and came to understand that the techna scroll fragment he discovered was unique and incredibly powerful… potentially anyway. A power that could be discovered and given to others to further protect the world from danger, like the one that almost claimed him and his fellow sages. He endeavoured to learn more about his abilities and discover the location of the remaining techna fragments that could complete his transformation.

Motivations

Dashe is still a sage at heart. Though, most of his studies focus on the martial disciplines and philosophies of mind over matter. He began his journey as a bit of a weakling, but his body has become powerful and attractive since he began his new training regime. He isn’t narcissistic, just in awe of his new appearance. He’s never looked better, and he’s never had as many female friends look at him with such interest before. Dashe is a bookworm who suddenly discovers he’s in a super hot body. Kind of like “Den of earth”.

Brief history

Dazzle was borne in a settlement close to the ruins of a precursor temple. As a youth, he was fascinated by their wonder, but he stayed clear of them as they were intimidating and dangerous. He was educated as a fur trapper but his agility and talent was recognized by the kindly sage of the settlement, Frazzle who paid for his scholarship to the fighting schools of Arach Cital. Dazzle expected to become a Arachnid Explorer so that he could finally visit the ruins with a Ruiner group, but he was relegated to guard duty. After his disappointing tour, he opted for early discharge, took his meager pension and struck out into the world on “Nowhere” to seek his fortune, at last, as a Ruiner… and explorer.

Motivations

Dazzle likes to show off. He likes excitement and adventure. He likes being known (famously or infamously) He likes to live on the edge and he likes to go and find out what’s in the dark, come what may. A romantic, but sometimes careless seeker of secrets. Dazzles can be a bit thoughtless about others at times, but he goes above and beyond to make amends once he discovers his error. He acts like Peter Pan if he aged to 22 years old: A lot more responsible, but still has a touch of that thrill seeking kid in him.

Brief history

Hyacinth began collecting books and tomes at a very early age. He created a small library and research club in the first period of his educational journey. When he grew older he became a sage of the Southeastern Underoot Library. There, he took pride and solace in the knowledge that surrounded him. But when he visited the vast library of Arach Cital, he was chagrined to find that it was nearly six times as vast as his own domain’s. From that moment forward, Hyacinth strove to find tomes that could turn his little library into the greatest ever seen on the planes.

Motivations

Hyacinth is generous and sweet… except when it comes to books. He guards them and their secrets jealously until he’s sure that at least one other copy is secure. THEN, he’s gracious and freely loans that book to whoever seems as though they are respectful and sincere. Knowledge is Hyacinth’s mania and will do anything to preserve it for his library. He fawns over authors, dotes on students and is suspicious of other sages.

Brief history

Kapak does not lead a charmed life. His earlier careers have all ended disastrously and it seemed, to him, the fates wanted nothing but his destruction… until he became a “thief”. Kapak first became a guard of the Buer Citadel until he accidentally stabbed the right buttock of the Duchess Lumand while slipping on her lazily tossed panala peel while serving on honor guard duty. Kapak then accidentally flooded the Citadel royal suite with sewage after his demotion to Sewage-sweeper, ruining Duchess Lumand’s expensive “charity ball”, by when he failed to remove the gaudy dress she flushed down the toilet earlier that day. Kapak was arrested and sentenced to life behind bars on trumped up charges. Duchess Lumand even had torcheres scheduled to keep Kapak company for the duration. After hearing the news from a gloating prison guard, Kapak, soon discovered he had an uncanny knack for pickpocketing, lockpicking, stealth and friggin’ getting the heck out of dodge, no matter the security. Kapak is now the most notorious and successful thief in the realm according to most accounts. To date, he is still wanted by Duchess Lumand!

Motivations

Kapak wanted to be a swashbuckler when he was young. A musketeer of the Citadel. One of the honor guard. Instead he’s a notorious thief who robs from the rich and gives a lot to the poor and keeps a little bit for himself. Other thieves wonder about the source of his prowess. “No one could possibly be so lucky. It must be skill!” Kapak would rather be known as a hero. Not the foiler of the corrupted Dutchess. But he’s good at what he does. A Natural. Even when he’s making out. He’s really good… naturally.

Like all members of the cosmic, elder race known as “Hy-Humans” (or Hyums), Leon’s methods, techna, powers and exact origins are mysterious. For the past Sixty years, Leon has been recording his adventures and experiences as a treasure hunter for his auric subscribers. His latest trials have brought him to a strange, out-of-the-way realm called Knowhere. A once pleasant and relatively peaceful place threatened by a cosmic catastrophe! Can our hero save the day?

Motivations

It’s hard to understand the true motivations of Hyums. But on the surface, Leon seems to sincerely care about the fate of the realm of Nowhere and will aid the desperate people of that world any way he can. But below the surface, Leon seems slightly disconnected. As though nothing’s really at stake for him. As though he’s roleplaying a character in some game… It’s a “game” he’s deeply invested in… but still.

Brief history

Makyl was orphaned at a very young age during a terrible planar horror infestation involving a horrifying breed called “Sharskunk.” Makyl was rescued by an elderly Elementalist named Ghastwroth. She had lost a son during a planar horror attack long ago and took Makyl in and cared for him in Tibrare Aurastil, the home of the Illaths. As an apprentist, Makyl was invaluable to to Ghastwroth. His innate elemental aptitude and his ability to quickly learn turned Makyl from student to peer to Ghastwroth by the time he was a young man. Ghastwroth was both proud and embarrassed by Makyl, as he a powerful ally and a good son… but he was also a promiscuous lady killer and Illath girls vied for his exotic attentions. It wasn’t until Makyl returned from a weekend of vigorous delights… hosted by the Tibrare sorcess college’s tenth graduating class, that Makyl came home to find his mentor missing. Apparently Ghastwroth has journeyed south… to stop something unspeakable from happening to Nowhere!

Motivations

Makyl is a bit of a recluse when it comes to his research. He’s learned the value of careful, meticulous research from his mother, who has made great strides in Elemental study. Makyl hopes to attain his mother’s level of expertise and uses her methods… which makes him feel pretty lonely at times. Makyl works hard but he likes to cut loose too. He’s not materialistic and is incredibly generous. But he hasn’t learned as many people skills as he’s learned romantic interactions, so he can be abrasive without meaning to be. Makyl is a loner with a sweet, exotic side who loves the unexpected.

Publius served as an apprentice to the Legender of Nowhere: A powerful psion who, through precognition, grooms and creates legendary heroes for important tasks. Publius was sent by his master to observe the coming of the Eternial and assist with her/his fledgeling precognitive abilities.

Motivations

Publius is a great admirer of the heroes of yore and now he finds himself surrounded by heroes in the making. He believes it is a great privilege and honor to be involved in such an epic quest. Ever the optimist, Publius is unwavering in his belief that the company shall succeed. His only worry is that he’ll miss details that he most relate to the Lorestry, his home and heroic museum.

Brief history

Saturnine is a semi-famous criminal investigator, puzzle-cracker and riddle-solver. At times, he’s a detective working with authorities to apprehend criminals. At other times, he’s an archeologist, unravelling the cryptic ciphers that lock the secrets of the past. As a youth, his indulged in his favorite past-time, solving puzzles. These days, he uses his brain to unravel mysteries and save the day through their solution. As famous and realm-renowned as any famous sleuth of any distant realm.

Motivations

Saturnine not only enjoys seeing how things and people are motivated, or what makes them tick, he takes great pleasure in just watching the action unfold. A true scholar, and a polite and sophisticated gentleman. But he’s not as fragile as his appearance seems. Saturnine can be pretty durable when he needs to be.

Surge studied under a legendary Dydrad martial artist named “Oak Leaf”. One of young fighters Oak Leaf defeated in a grand tournament held every fifteen years. Surge came to understand his mentor’s methods and his purpose. To spread the kind and powerful philosophies and histories of the ancient fighters of old and preserve that heritage. The discipline focuses on creating a balance between opposing forces within and without the spirit, mind and body. Before Surge became master Leaf’s pupil, he was on the wrong path. He was working with a gang of hoodlums in his youth and they were on track to becoming bandits. Surge is now a well respected hunter of planar horrors and renown for his abilities.

Motivations

Surge has gained a lot from his time as Master Leaf’s pupil. He’s learned the value of having true companions and the strength of that bond. Now he seeks to forge new, strong bonds with new companions using the lessons he’s learned from his time with Master Leaf. Surge is like David Carradine’s character in Kung-fu. A bit naive, but he has firm roots in his discipline and teachings of wisdom. His inexperience can make him insensitive at times. His indignation makes him a bit wrathful at times. But he seeks balance within and tries to work against his flaws by becoming aware of himself. Not easy every time. But that’s the way it is for everyone.

Wulfe Mudo

Brief history

It’s difficult to pin down the exact origins and histories of a Hyum. They all belong to an ancient, elder race of planes-walkers and they never really seem to age. Wulfe is a “Hy Human” who seems to be fascinated with the structure and physiognomy of anthropoid species throughout the planar realms. He’s one of the leading authorities on the subject and considers himself a true scientist in his field… which seems to pay very little “credits”. To supplement his income, he hires himself out as a physician and a specialist Hyum to “Xeno” relations. Currently he’s taken a job offered by a very powerful Hyum family to look after an imperial princess who likes to galavant across the planes for her adventures. Wulfe’s job is to make sure the princess isn’t devoured on her adventures… Unfortunately, the imperial princess is a bit willful, VERY wild and has shanghaied Wulfe and his bodyguard Leon, AND the royal physician, Karinth into an adventure that spells ALL of their doom!

Motivations

Wulfe would like nothing better than to not be in a desperate predicament involving an apocalyptic doom befalling a poor defenseless realm… but he can’t turn his back innocent people he can assist. Wulfe will do everything he can to assist the common good, but first he has to insure that the princess is safe. All the while, there are suddenly a lot of opportunities to interact with other planar species on Nowhere… as bleak as things seem with the encroaching darkness looming, this is becoming quite the adventure!

Xolo

Brief history

Xolo is the unsung hero of almost every battle or rescue operation he joins in on. As a youth he studied hard in the Buer Citadel martial schools to become a guardian. His deeds were astounding but they were always overshadowed by some unusual event or circumstance. He led his junior patrols through to safety while under siege by horrific planar horrors, but at the same moment an important dignitary had fallen prey to a life threatening illness while visiting Buer Citadel’s royal gathering! As such, Xolo is not nearly as decorated and celebrated as he should be. He’s fine with that. His fellow High Guardians recognize his deeds and his worht even if he is the lowest rank and the least celebrated.

Motivations

Xolo is bound by a strong sense of honor and duty. But he’s eerily hard to notice under certain circumstances. He’d like very much for this to change. Even to this day, he follows his Captain, Cleareat’s advice to wear more noticeable attire… (Which he’s translated to meaning, “wear only a glossy pamala hammock.”) Xolo is slight and quiet most of the time. But indignation booms from his voice when he’s excited or enraged and it’s like he’s suddenly there: An overpowering presence in the room!
